Ōhau
AW26 took us to New Zealand’s South Island, Te Waipounamu.
Base camp was to be Twizel, a small town 145km north of Wanaka, nestled between Lake Ohau to the west, Lake Pukaki to the north and the Waitaki River to the south, Aoraki (Mt. Cook) looming in the distance.
The combination of access roads, gravel paths, single-track and scree fields made for testing conditions as runners Amelia, Fionn and Taonga navigated deep winter in the Southern Hemisphere.
A remote outpost, known better for hydro-plants, ski-season and salmon fishing, but ripe for hard miles, challenging conditions and fitness earned while moving fast, light and without excess.
Full film launching soon.
