Eighteen runners, two coaches, eight summer weeks, one common goal: a 5k Personal Best. This summer’s SOAR Training Group took 18 London runners and asked for only one prerequisite to participation – commitment. Commitment to the process, to the group, to the training, to the detail, to the end goal and to the enjoyment it brought along the way.
The group, run in collaboration with The Run Yard (TRY) elite middle distance squad, undertook structured weekly training sessions. Learning the importance of warming-up, technique and drills, pace judgment, race tactics and recovery along the way. Progressing week-by-week with a clear goal in mind the team evolved into a well-drilled unit, dedicated to the training, its professionalism and one another.
The result? PBs aplenty, and more importantly, a team who have overhauled their approach to training, reimaged what is possible and are on a new path to realising their full potential as runners.
