What got you into running? And what keeps you doing it?
Used to hate running at school! After I had my first child a group of mums would get together and run in Greenwich Park and it became something of a habit. My first event was Run for Life Cancer 5k on the Heath and after that I kept entering events as an incentive to run further! I was also amazed at the support at the events! Running for me has a real feel good factor on every level.
What is your typical training routine?
It depends on the goal to be achieved, average 3 times a week, approx 18-25 miles a week. Some speed work, gentle run, one long distance.
Do you run with a club or a group?
Yes, just signed up with a great local club called NEJ. Super friendly and inclusive.
You recently joined the SOAR X Cross-country training programme, what was it that appealed to committing to 10 weeks of training to race in the cold and the mud?
I didn't think so much about the cold and mud! More that it would be great as a newcomer to this side of running to learn how to get the best technique and fitness tips!
What do you hope to get from SOAR X programme?
Knowledge, increased fitness and enjoyment from being with others who are also passionate about running.
How does it differ from your prior running experiences? Have you raced cross-country in the past?
I have been to Balmoral and run in the Highlands which was amazing, more locally Knole Park which have been challenging but living in London it's fantastic to be out of the urban environment and get back to some green and mud!
And what have you learnt so far? Any top tips?
I've learnt that if others believe in you, you begin to believe in yourself. Top tips, warm up properly, keep warm to and from track/training and remember to refuel as soon as poss after training sessions! Oh and use those arms properly!
Where's the strangest place you've run?
Balmoral in the Highlands.
What song, if any, is guaranteed to make you run faster?
I can't pick just one! Jessie J - Price Tag (Benny Page Remix) feat B.o.B Lady Gaga - Applause Changing Sigma (feat Paloma Faith) Good Times Sigma (Ella Ayre) I Get By - Liam Gallagher Stereophonics She's Alright, Trouble, Dakota The Hunna - Bonfire, You & Me, Never Enough.
Do you run for the fun of it? Or for the results?
What is the best bit of advice you've had from another runner?
Don't wait until tomorrow to run, go today.
What simple advice would you give to a new or novice runner?
Invest some time to learn which style trainer is the correct fit for you! Not necessarily the most expensive and buy last year's model to save cash!
What is your favourite piece of SOAR kit?
Oriel Capris, amazing fit.
