What got you into running? And what keeps you doing it?
Not being able to keep up with the children was a big motivation at the start. Now I just cant stop.
What is your typical training routine?
Trails and roads most days. Parliament Hill track on Tuesdays when I can. Tempo runs along Parkland Walk, the disused railway track between Highgate and Finsbury Park. Friday rest day and the classic Sunday long run. I'm quite a conventional chap.
Do you run with a club or a group?
Highgate Harriers and Vets AC
Where's the strangest place you've run?
Getting lost and ending up in a storm drain in Los Angeles
What song, if any, is guaranteed to make you run faster?
Sonic Youth - Teenage Riot
Do you run for the fun of it? Or for the results?
Before I started running I used to say to myself, "you really should go for a run". Now I become unsettled if I don't. It's obsessional and sometimes that's not fun but necessary. If the results kept getting better I would be perfectly happy. But at 50, that's not going to happen.
What is the best bit of advice you've had from another runner?
Keep your arms down
What simple advice would you give to a new or novice runner?
Start modestly and embrace small improvements. Don't think you have to run a marathon.
What is your favourite piece of SOAR kit?
My Soar navy/orange race vest
