What got you into running? And what keeps you doing it?
I was knocked out playing schoolboy B team rugby aged 14, the only sensible alternative on offer was cross country running. Sadly this was neither rugby's loss or athletics' gain, but at least I got rid of the prop forward build in short order.
What is your typical weekly training routine?
2 x 5-10k canalside/park/road runs in London or any other city my job takes me to. 1 x -/+ 15k cross country at the weekend at home in Suffolk. 3-4ks swimming in 2 sessions. I always have one day off.
Do you run with a club or a group?
Solo, its the best time to think over life's knotty issues
Where’s the strangest place you’ve run?
On the fire escape stairs in my former office.
What song, if any, is guaranteed to make you run faster?
Headphones are cheating.
Is it just for the fun of it? Or for the results?
Fun, but nothing motivates like an upcoming race.
What is the best bit of advice you’ve had from another runner?
Shorten your stride uphill, but lengthen just before the summit.
What simple advice would you give to a new or novice runner?
Get your runs into your calendar at the beginning of every week.
What is your favourite piece of SOAR kit?
My rain jacket, its so light and versatile - a great all round bit of outerwear for life
