What got you into running? And what keeps you doing it?
I got into running when I was 12 as I was moving to high school. I always loved playing the running games at break times and when I got picked for the school cross country team, that was it and I've never looked back. I just love that feeling of giving your all, and most of all trying to win too!
What is your typical training routine?
I train everyday bar Friday where I try to do something other then run and to give my body a break before Saturday, as I know it's always a hard session on the mud or on the track, depending what my coach has set me. I find strength and conditioning is a massive key to my training as it's not just about getting the miles in your legs. 50 miles a week.
Do you run with a club or a group?
Yes I'm very lucky to have a good training group and I'm always trying to beat the guys (which never happens) I run for Manx harriers and the Isle of Man.
Where's the strangest place you've run?
That's a tricky one as I'm very lucky to have been to many places competing in the Island Games, which is in lots of countries, but I’d say Aland as you’ll be out for an evening shake out and before you know it just goes pitch black and then you get lost haha! I’ll never forget that run turning into 8 miles instead of 4
What song, if any, is guaranteed to make you run faster?
Stronger - Kanye West. Just makes me feel pumped!
Do you run for the fun of it? Or for the results?
Definitely the results as you can never beat that PB feeling and winning medals. I just love it! The faster I get the more I want to run to see what I can do next time.
What is the best bit of advice you've had from another runner?
Just because you’re not where you want to be now, doesn't mean you’re not going to get there, keep working hard and you’ll get there for sure. I loved this advice from them, I've always looked up to them too, which made it even more special.
What simple advice would you give to a new or novice runner?
Running is simple. Just get out and enjoy it and you’ll see the results.
What is your favourite piece of SOAR kit?
The Tilia long sleeve - it's a great layer.
