SOAR Race Team
The SOAR Race Team is our collective of athletes pursuing fast times and podium finishes. Racing globally at distances from 800m to ultras, on track, road, cross-country and trail, these athletes are anything but ordinary.
None are full time professionals, but all race to their max. Juggling the rigors of elite-level training and competition with work and study. Requiring extraordinary discipline, commitment, and faith in the process.
We’re proud to support them as they push their own performance boundaries, they inspire us to keep forging on, and we hope they do the same for you.
Mile: 3:59:46 / 1500m: 3:40:55
Physiotherapist by day, elite middle-distance runner by night. Leeds based Andy is a 1500m specialist unafraid of dropping down to two-laps, or testing himself over longer distances on road and cross-country. A member of the ‘sub-4 mile club’, he’s a multiple British 1500m Championships finalist with a best of 7th to his name.
Half Marathon: 73:21 / Marathon: 2:34:20
Long distance Welsh athlete and senior medallist on road, track and cross country, Anna comes from a sporty family and cites her PE teacher mum as a major inspiration. Encouraged by her fiancé to join a running club, she is relatively new to the sport and her rise has been rapid. Winner of the Manchester Marathon in 2021 she came back to claim her 2:34 PB last year, over a minute inside the Commonwealth qualifying standard for Wales. Anna juggles running with her career as a diagnostic radiographer for the NHS and is shooting for participation in major champs and a sub 2:30 marathon soon.
1500m: 3:40:32 / Mile: 3:59:07
Former footballer Callum only turned his sporting focus solely to running in 2021, and from there things moved fast. Earning an opportunity to race in the US’s NCAA during 2021 Callum’s performance level sky-rocketed. Racing over distances from 800m to 5,000m Calum found a sweet spot at the mile and its metric equivalent, becoming NCAA Division II 1500m champ in 2022. Before the year was out Callum had secured his first senior Great Britain vest – racing as part of the mixed relay team at the European Cross Country Championships. All while bagging a brace of sub-4 miles on the track, one on each side of the Atlantic Ocean.
1500m: 4.31.87 / 5km: 16.43
Clare Elms only realised her talent for running after the birth of her triplets in 2000 but now features at the very top of the national age group rankings from 800m to Marathon. Holder of over 20 GB age group records, she’ll be coming for all the VW60 records in 2 year’s time. Perhaps most impressive is Clare’s parkrun record, she has been fastest female finisher in every one of the 158 parkruns she's completed. Her proudest achievements include winning the Kent County cross country Champs at the age of 47, and the South of England 3000m Champs twice.
Vertical Kilometre: 35.42 / 2nd 2015 World Mountain Champs
Living between Sweden and Italy, British mountain runner Emmie loves elevation. Uphill is definitely her thing (she rarely runs downhill). Emmie would be equally happy on the flat if there were any near her, she wore an England vest as a junior. Winner of the European Mountain Running Championships, second finisher in the World Mountain Running Championships and second fastest ever in the world over the Vertical KM, Emmie also holds the record for the fastest female ascent of Snowdon. In her day job as a freelance writer and photographer, Emmie regularly collaborates with SOAR, producing beautiful imagery and words to articulate our collections.
Half Marathon: 72:08 / Marathon: 2:26:28
Marathon specialist George is an ex-international Duathlete (run-bike-run). While she may come back to duathlon in the future, George has focussed on running in recent years and was selected to represent England in the 2022 Commonwealth Games. George most recently wore her SOAR race team vest in Valencia Marathon to run a rapid 2:26:2, placing her 7th on the all-time UK women’s marathon rankings. When not running, George is based in Cambridge as a technical writer for a medical tech firm.
1500m: 3:40:21 / Mile: 3:57:96
Runner of the first ever sub-4 mile in SOAR kit, Ian’s 3:57 is the fastest mile time amongst the race team. The result of learning his trade in middle-distance hotbeds on the south coast of England and the hills of New Mexico. Originally a specialist over 1500m and its imperial equivalent, Ian is starting to move up to the 5,000m. Strong showings in 2022 saw him feature prominently in the British 5,000m Champs and register a 13:47 clocking for the win at a BMC Grand Prix.
5,000m: 13:43 / 10km: 28:45
PE teacher Jacob’s day job sees him leading lessons a mere stone’s throw from SOAR’s Old Street HQ. Though that’s after he’s logged 10+ miles on the hilly streets and trails of north London, often before daylight has broken. The England international is making a name for himself as a specialist over 5,000m, 10,000m and cross-country. Having first cut his sub-14 minute 5,000m teeth in the NCAA, Jacob has more recently found his racing home in London. With both a 13:47 5km and a 28:45 10km to his name by February in 2023 it looks set to be a blockbuster year for the fastest man in the staff room.
Marathon: 2:25 / South Downs Way 100km: 1st
A man for all occasions. James has won the gruelling South Downs Way 100km Ultra, run a 2:25 road marathon and boasts impressive 67-minute half and 30-minute 10km PB’s to-boot. From parkrun to cross-country, fell races to trail ultras, there’s little that won’t prompt the former Army PT to don his vest and go to the well. When not sating his racing appetite JT can be found logging big miles – and elevation – on the arduous trails of Sussex’s South Downs.
1500m: 3:44:85 / Mile: 4:01:39
2022 English 1500m Champion Josh is a middle-distance thoroughbred. Hailing from England’s south west but now based in London, Josh flourishes at the 1500 and 3000 metres – both indoors and out. When not honing his own form he’s helping others with theirs as a coach to runners of all persuasions. He boasts a sub 30-minute 10km to his name too, impressive for a man so focused on the middle distances, and with so few forays into the longer stuff.
3,000m: 9.04 / 5k: 15.28
Formerly a keen footballer and now an ambitious and determined middle-distance athlete, Kate Holt discovered a talent for running accidentally. A friend secretly signed her up for the cross country team as a joke, telling her the day before her first race. Kate came second, joined City of Stoke running club and has gone on from strength to strength, representing England and GB on a number of occasions over cross country, track and road. Her next goals are to break 9 mins for the 3,000 and break 15.30 in the 5,000m on track.
5km: 13:47 / 10km 29:25
Irish international distance runner Matt is a Bedford based sports physiotherapist who has previously trained and raced out of the high altitude of New Mexico, USA. When not healing some of the UK’s leading distance talents, Matt can be found racing on the track and roads across Europe. He sports a sub-8 3,000m, a sub-14 5,000m and has run many a 29-minute 10km. He has a 5th place in the prestigious Armagh 5km and a 3rd in the Morton Games 3,000m to his name. Matt can even be found racing cross-country, if his arm’s been twisted enough.
Half Marathon: 62:57 / Marathon: 2:15
One of our two US based athletes, Great Britain International Matt races out of San Francisco, California, by way of Hertfordshire, England. Having honed his skills as a half and full marathoner in recent years – clocking PBs of 62:57 and 2:15 respectively, as well as a 9th place finish at the London Marathon - Matt still isn’t afraid to drop down and chase fast times. Illustrated by his sub-14 5,000m pedigree and a 3:59 road mile. An employee of Google, Matt can often be found logging mile-upon-mile in San Francisco’s Golden Gate Park.
Snowdon International Mountain Race 6th / 5km: 14:29
Our man in the hills. Michael is a fell running specialist and England Mountain Running International. Training and racing out of the peaks and moors of north-west England, Michael has finished 4th in the Snowdon International Mountain Race and was the Rivington Pike Race Classic winner. When not on the fells Michael’s not afraid to mix it with speedsters on roads or cross country either, boasting a 5km best of 14:29. @michael.cayton
5km: 14:35 / Half Marathon: 68:03
A fearless and relentless racer, Mo is a stalwart of the London scene on road, track and cross country. There’s no London park, or track, Mo hasn’t trained at. Or training group whose presence he hasn’t graced. Promising to debut at the 2023 London Marathon Mo’s sure to be a crowd-favourite. When not running – or selling running shoes – Mo’s a sometime body-double for a certain British Olympic Champ who shares his first name.
1500: 4:21.28 / 5000m: 16:21.98
Committed racer Pippa is the U20 2022 British Champion for 3000m, 5000m and cross country and has already represented England in cross country, track and road.
With a mantra of you get what you put in, her goal is to make major European Championships and progress well into the seniors. Currently a student of Psychology at St Mary’s University in Twickenham and surrounded by athletes, we’re sure she will.
5,000m: 13:50.22 / Euro Cross Country U23: 11th
The SOAR Race Team’s resident coffee-head, and another of our US based distance men. Currently racing for Oklahoma State University in the NCAA Division 1, Rory was a key man as they finished 2nd in the prestigious NCAA Cross Country Champs of 2022, coming home in 32nd place in a ferociously competitive field. This performance was to secure the Morpeth man’s call up to the GB team for the 2022 European Cross Country champs where he finished 11th in the u23 race. With a 13:50 5,000m to his name – and having been ranked no.1 in the UK at the distance whilst a junior – Rory’s no stranger to the oval office either.
10km: 28:24 / Euro Cross Country U23: 2nd
Southampton based cross-country specialist Zak holds the distinction of being the only Senior British Male selected to race the 2023 World Cross Country Championships in Australia. The former English Junior Champ was a silver medallist in the u23 race at the 2022 European Cross Country Championships in Italy. Whilst a 4th place finish in the ’22 Senior English Champs provides another glimpse of Zak’s prodigious talent on the mud. A recent 28:24 10km clocking, plus a 13:53 5,000m to his name, show that he’s no slouch when the going gets fast either.
